Hysteroscopy

Hysteroscopy at Cosmocare Medical Center is a minimally invasive procedure used to diagnose and treat conditions affecting the inside of the uterus. For example, if a fibroid or polyp is found, it can often be removed during the procedure using specialized instruments passed through the hysteroscope.  Hysteroscopy is commonly used for evaluating and treating women experiencing abnormal bleeding, chronic pelvic pain, or recurrent miscarriages. In cases where other diagnostic tools, like ultrasounds, may not provide enough detail, hysteroscopy offers a more direct view of the uterine cavity, allowing for more accurate diagnosis and targeted treatment. It’s particularly effective in identifying endometrial polyps or submucosal fibroids, which can interfere with fertility and pregnancy. For patients who are struggling with infertility, hysteroscopy can be part of the diagnostic process to identify any uterine abnormalities that may be preventing successful conception. In addition to diagnosis, the procedure can be used to treat conditions such as adhesions (scar tissue) that can block the fallopian tubes, restoring the uterus to a healthier state and improving the chances of pregnancy.

While hysteroscopy is a relatively quick and safe procedure, it is typically performed under local anesthesia or sedation, depending on the complexity of the case and the patient’s preferences. After the procedure, most patients are able to return to normal activities within a day or two, with minimal discomfort. Some mild cramping or spotting may occur, but these symptoms generally resolve quickly. In addition to diagnostic hysteroscopy, operative hysteroscopy is used to treat various uterine conditions. For example, fibroid removal, polyp excision, and adhesion lysis (removal of scar tissue) can all be accomplished during this procedure. The ability to perform these treatments during the same session as the diagnostic examination significantly reduces the need for additional procedures and hospital visits.
